Let's imagine for a minute that the free market for restaurant food was suspended, and that we started to use a democratic solution instead.  What would the ballot look like?  Well first of all, there'd be McDonald's, Burger King, and KFC on the ballot for sure.  Maybe you'd find a Chinese restaurant, or anyone for Thai, Indian or fish & chips?  OK, in any case only those who put up a deposit would be allowed a place on this ballot.  Now guess who would win?  Umm, would it be Tweedle Dee or Tweedle Dum?  I guess the favourite would have to be Macca's right, mate?  Just remember that just because you didn't vote for McDonald's doesn't mean you wouldn't have to eat it every night for the next say, four years!  Not to mention the price could be doubled or the portions halved anytime.  Hey, if you don't like it, you can always vote for Burger King next time!  Wow - isn't democracy wonderful!
